Dirceu Vianna Junior MW
Originally from Brazil, where he studied Forest Engineering and Law, before moving to London in 1989 and becoming involved in the wine trade the following year.
Part of his extensive travels and studies have included completing the ‘Master Napa Valley’ programme in the United States, Diplome d’Honneur at l’Ecole D’Alsace and becoming a member of the Champagne Academy and winning the ‘Golden Magnum Award’ as Top Student. He later received L’Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne in recognition of work promoting and serving the Champagne Region.
In the pursuit of becoming a Master of Wine, he has travelled to most of the world’s wine producing regions and has experience in working in New World and Old World wineries.
In September 2008 he obtained the qualification and title of ‘Master of Wine’ and was awarded the Top Student prize in the ‘Business of Wine' section of the examination.
After contributing to the ‘The Wine Opus’ book, he co-wrote a book entitled 'Conheça Vinhos' ('Understanding Wine'), a wine publication in Portuguese that won the 'Gourmand World Cookbook Award' in Paris.
He has contributed to several publications around the world including Decanter Magazine (UK), Drinks Business (UK), Adega (Brazil) and Grandes Escolhas (Portugal).
For most of his career he has been the Wine Director at some of the most important wine distributors in the UK. With three decades of experience in diverse sectors of the Wine Industry and extensive contacts he now consults for businesses around the world including Africa, South America and Europe.
He is a judge at international wine competitions, a technical advisor, commercial consultant and wine educator. He is a regular speaker at wine events around the world, as well as making television appearances and taking part in radio programmes.
